What you need
Poster board, scissors, glue stick, printed photos or magazine images, printer paper, coloring materials (markers crayons colored pencils), black marker, pencil, ruler

Step 1

Choose 4 to 8 inspirational women you want to celebrate.

Gather all the Materials Needed and bring them to a clean workspace.

Step 3

Use the pencil and ruler to draw one box or section for each woman on the poster board.

Step 4

Find or print one photo or picture of each woman from your printed images or magazines.

Step 5

Cut out each photo or picture carefully with the scissors.

Step 6

Write a short one or two sentence bio for each woman on printer paper.

Step 7

Write one or two sentences explaining why each woman inspires you on printer paper.

Step 8

Arrange each photo and its matching bio and inspiration note on the poster board to decide the layout.

Step 9

Glue each photo and its papers into place on the poster board using the glue stick.

Step 10

Write a big title at the top of the poster using the black marker.

Step 11

Add decorations and color around each section using your coloring materials.

Step 12

Press down any loose edges and make small fixes so everything is neat and secure.

Step 13

Share your finished poster on DIY.org.

What can we use if we don't have poster board, a printer, or a glue stick?

Use a large piece of cardboard or taped-together butcher paper instead of poster board, cut photos from magazines by hand if you can't print images, and substitute double-sided tape or a thin layer of white glue with a craft brush for the glue stick when completing Step 9.

My photos are wrinkling or lifting after I glue them—how do I fix that?

If photos wrinkle or lift after Step 9, gently peel them up, smooth them on a flat surface while reapplying a thin layer of adhesive or use double-sided tape, then press down firmly and place a heavy book on top during Step 12 until dry.

How can I adapt the activity for different ages or skill levels?

For preschoolers (ages 4–7) limit the project to 4 women with adult help for Step 5 cutting and Step 9 gluing, for elementary kids let them write one-sentence bios in Step 6, and for tweens/teens have them research longer 2–3 sentence bios and add citations during Step 8 layout and Step 13 sharing.

What are some ways to personalize or extend the poster after it's finished?
