Help!?

We don't have poster board—what can we use instead?

If you don't have poster board for Step 2, use a large flattened cereal box or tape together several sheets of printer paper and still draw your 15 boxes and title.

My lines or boxes look uneven—how can I fix that?

If your lines or boxes come out uneven in Step 3, fold the board into 15 equal parts or use a ruler to make light pencil guides before darkening them so each numbered spot lines up neatly.

How can I change the activity for younger or older kids?

For younger children, make a Top 5 board with bigger pre-drawn boxes, stickers, and have an adult write the names in Step 6, while older kids can expand to Top 30, add mini bios under each name in Step 7, or glue QR codes to DIY channels before photographing in Step 11.

How can we make the shoutout board more special or long-lasting?

To personalize and extend the project, glue small printed photos of each DIYer next to their names in Step 6, add glitter glue or LED sticker lights around your stickers/decorative tape from Step 10, and laminate or frame the board after Step 11 for display.

How do I make a colorful shoutout board listing my top 15 favorite DIYers?

Start with a poster board or large sheet of paper and write a clear title at the top. List your top 15 DIYers in numbered order, leaving space next to each name for a small drawing and a one- or two-sentence reason why you like them. Decorate with markers, stickers, washi tape and small photos. Add color blocks or borders to make sections stand out. When finished, take a photo or video and share it with friends or family.

What materials do I need to make a #CampDIY Day 6 shoutout board?

Materials you’ll need: a poster board or large sheet of craft paper, markers and colored pencils, glue stick, scissors, scrap paper for cutouts, stickers or washi tape, optional printed photos of DIYers, index cards for writing reasons, ruler and pencil for layout, and a phone or tablet to photograph and share. For a reusable board, use laminated sheets or a dry‑erase board and dry‑erase markers.

What ages is this shoutout board activity suitable for?

This activity suits many ages. Preschoolers (3–5) can help pick favorites and make drawings with close supervision; they’ll need an adult to write names. School‑age kids (6–10) can write names, add short reasons, and decorate mostly independently. Tweens and teens (11–15+) can design more complex layouts, research DIYers, and create digital versions to share. Adjust complexity, handwriting help, and hot‑glue or scissors use to each child’s skill level.

What are the benefits of making a shoutout board with my child?

Making a shoutout board teaches gratitude, research and writing skills, and self‑expression. Kids practice fine motor skills while drawing and cutting, plus organization when ranking and explaining 15 favorites. Sharing the finished board builds communication and social confidence and can start conversations about role models and safe online behavior. It’s also a low‑stress way to combine art with digital skills when photographing or posting the board for family and friends.
