What you need
Activator rail, adult supervision required, lever or button, minecart with tnt, obsidian or water bucket, rails, redstone dust, solid building blocks

Step 1

Pick a flat open spot in your Minecraft world to build your rail-triggered explosion test.

Step 2

Lay a short straight line of normal rails about five blocks long to make a track.

Step 3

Replace the last rail at the end of the track with an Activator Rail so that it will be the trigger point.

Step 4

Build a small containment area around the Activator Rail using obsidian blocks or place water around it to protect the rest of the world.

Place solid blocks along one side of the track to hold redstone and a lever or button.

If you can't get obsidian, surround the Activator Rail with water as the instructions suggest, and if you lack an Activator Rail, use a regular TNT block ignited with flint-and-steel (or a dispenser with flint-and-steel) instead of placing a TNT Minecart on the rail.

My TNT Minecart won't explode when I flip the lever — what should I check?

Make sure the Redstone Dust line actually connects and touches the block next to the Activator Rail, the lever is switched to ON, and the Minecart with TNT is sitting on the Activator Rail inside your containment area.
