Help!?

What can we use instead of a full-length mirror or a colorful scarf if we don't have them?

If you don't have a full-length mirror or a colorful scarf, prop up a phone or tablet as a mirror for the warm-up and practice steps like the step-tap and arm wave, and use a bright T-shirt, lightweight towel, or ribbon as a substitute scarf for the final performance.

What should we do if we keep losing the beat or can't coordinate the shoulder shimmy with the step-tap?

If you lose the beat or can't coordinate the shoulder shimmy with the step-tap, slow the music, count aloud during the 'combine them slowly into a short sequence' step, and practice stepping first before adding the shimmy once the rhythm is steady.

How can we adapt the routine for younger children or older kids and teens?

For younger children, shorten the warm-up to one minute, cut repetitions (for example four step-taps and three arm waves) and make movements smaller or seated, while older kids and teens can increase repetitions, speed up to song tempo, and add extra facial expression and partner counts when they 'try the routine with a friend or two.'

How can we extend or personalize the dance beyond the basic steps?

To extend and personalize the routine, choreograph unique transitions between the step-tap, arm wave, hip circles, and clap-and-snap, add costume pieces like bangles or a sequined scarf, film the performance with a phone to share on DIY.org, or create mirrored group formations when practicing with friends.
