We’re delighted to announce that DIY.org is back online! 🎉 Thanks to an exciting acquisition by our friends at AstroSafe (more on them below), DIY is up and running once again.
All accounts are now fully operational, just as before—effective immediately!
If you’ve decided to move on during this downtime, we completely understand. Just let us know, and we’ll deactivate your plan.
But if you’re as thrilled as we are to be reunited, WELCOME BACK! Simply log in with your old credentials and start DIY-ing again. 🚀
When we downed tools back in May 2024, we truly thought it was the end. Growth was tough, finances were tight, and our morale was low.
With heavy hearts, we paused all operations and began the difficult process of shutting DIY down.
It broke our hearts. And it broke yours too.
We were deeply moved by the thousands of heartfelt messages from our community. Messages filled with love, encouragement, and the hope that DIY could somehow continue. But no matter how hard we tried, we just couldn’t see a way forward. We had no choice but to say goodbye.
Then, in our darkest moment, just when the fog seemed thickest, something incredible happened.
A light at the end of the tunnel.
At the eleventh hour, buried deep in a junk mail folder, was one of those goodbye messages. But this one wasn’t from a community member.
It was from the team at AstroSafe.
A London-based company dedicated to building amazing online tools for kids, including a kid-safe search engine, a kid-safe youtube alternative, and a kid-friendly browser app for studying.
The subject line?
“Don’t give up!”
Inside, the message read:
"We’ve loved DIY ever since we started building safe internet tools for kids four years ago! Don’t close it down! We can help! Let’s keep it alive!"
And just like that, the fog lifted. The future of DIY changed because of one email we almost missed.
Over the following months, we got to know AstroSafe’s founders Filippo, Alexis, and Joe, and quickly realised that their passion for safe, creative online spaces for kids aligned perfectly with ours.
We saw an exciting future:
✨ A world where DIY users could access AstroSafe’s safe search engine and browser
✨ A world where AstroSafe users could become part of the DIY community
One company, many possibilities.
We knew AstroSafe would be the perfect stewards to take DIY on and carry the torch.
So, to cut a long story short: AstroSafe acquired DIY.ORG
DIY is now part of URSOR Limited, with our new headquarters in London. And we couldn’t be more excited to say…
“We’re back, baby!” 🎉
To celebrate this new beginning, DIY will be getting some much-needed improvements in the coming months. 🚀
Our combined team is already hard at work, exploring new ways to bring DIY.org to the AstroSafe community and AstroSafe’s tools to DIY users.
You’ll see some new faces operating the service, as well as some familiar ones.
We feel energised, rejuvenated, and ready for the future. We hope you do too! For now, enjoy being back on DIY. We’re so happy to have you here.
With love and gratitude,
From all of us at the new DIY & AstroSafe team 💜
